The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is an Arts & Cultural Institution housed in two Landmark buildings in downtown Brooklyn. The Peter Jay Sharp Building includes an Opera House, cinemas, a café, and rehearsal studios. The Harvey Theatre is an 875 seat theater.
The facility suffered deteriorating infrastructure and antiquated lighting and theater rigging systems. Mr. Rice led the design team engineering services for the infrastructure upgrade projects. The scope of work for the projects included:
- Performing a detailed review of the existing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning installation and making recommendations and design implementation for a modernized, fully integrated system.
- Providing more uniform temperatures throughout the auditorium and stage.
- Ensuring air distribution system had no visual impact on stage scenery and effects.
- Satisfying optimal noise criteria for theatre environments.
- Specifying new systems that provide for ease of maintenance.
- Considering visual impact of equipment.
- Considering energy conservation measures.
- Replacing existing electrical service with new service of increased capacity and providing distribution to all new equipment requiring power.
- Providing replacement fixtures for Opera House bathrooms.
- Disconnecting fire curtain from fire pump system.
